The person most likely to help you get your dream job isn't a close friend. The most useful person to know is the one least like you. For each relationship you create with someone who thinks differently from you creates ~25 additional relationships. There is a massive benefit to being able to get along with people who have a different income, social status and yes who also disagrees with you politically.
